History

The journal "Bulletin of the Polytechnic Institute of Jassy" (BIPI) is published for over 60 years as a scientific journal originally under the tutelage of Polytechnic Institute of Jassy, and then of the Technical University "Gheorghe Asachi" of Jassy. The first issue of the journal appeared in 1946, with a biannual frequency. Only four years after the publication of the journal was suspended under the pretext of its "cosmopolitan nature", due to exclusive use of foreign languages and the presence of authors from Western countries.

The journal resumes its appearance in 1955, and is published without interruption since then, now reaching volume LXXXI (LXXXV). In the first years after the resuming of publication the appearance was biannually containing miscellaneous papers with subjects starting from mathematics and ending with the social sciences. Initially papers were published both in Romanian and foreign widely spoken languages, but gradually the decision was to use only foreign languages in order to facilitate regular exchanges with journals abroad and thus, increasing the visibility of published papers. In 1971 it was decided to split the journal in several sections oriented to distinct engineering areas. Since then, the journal has increased its number of sections so that now appears on the following subjects:

1. Mathematics, Theoretical Mechanics, Physics

2. Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

3. Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Electronics

4. Automation, Computers

5. Industrial Engineering

6. Civil Engineering and Architecture

7. Hydrotechnics

8. Textiles, Leather

9. Social Sciences

10. Materials Science and Engineering

Periodically special volumes have been published dedicated to significant scientific events, national or international, organized by the Technical University.

Along with the emergence in 1946 of the Polytechnic Institute of Jassy (BIP), the journal began to publish works in Electrical Engineering area with authors teaching in the faculty then denoted as the Faculty of Electromechanics. Papers by specialists from other universities in the country and abroad were gradually included in the journal volumes.

BulIPI First papers in Electrical Engineering

An important step for this section was in 1969 when the journal was split into independent sections. This section was originally denoted Electrical Engineering and Electronics, and after that, in 1971, became Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation.

BulIPI TOME XVII

In 1991, following the appearance of the Faculty of Automation and Computers, a separate section was dedicated to this area. Since then, without interruption, this section appears under the name Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Electronics. Starting with number 64 (68), issue 1, the section of Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Electronics also includes the previous section of Automatic Control and Computer Science of the same Bulletin.  The Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Electronics section is currently published quarterly (four times a year), each part having 80-100 pages. Papers appear exclusively in a largely used international language (especially English) with an abstract in Romanian language. Each volume of the journal is printed in 175 copies. It should be noted that the volume contains original papers submitted by authors from universities and by the guests participating in the scientific sessions of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Electronics

The subjects of the journal papers reflect the work included in the broad area of Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Electronics, Automatic Control and Computer Science of Romanian and foreign researchers. The proposed topics of the published papers cover classical fields of Electrical and Power Engineering, Electronics, Automatic Control and Computer Science but also present themes in areas that follow a rapid process of maturation. The journal is an effective mean of disseminating the recently obtained results, to promote interdisciplinary research, but also an opportunity for young researchers and PhD students to define and strengthen their own style of writing and presenting the scientific work. The Bulletin also contain reviews of last scientific and technical books appeared in prestigious publishing houses, which increase the book collection of the Technical University Library.

The high level of paper review is guaranteed by the existence of an international Editorial Board, which brings together leading scientific specialists from the country and abroad, and by the special attention given to the revision process of the papers proposed for publication, assured by a team of referees selected by the requirement from their teachers and abroad. It deserves special mention made by highlighting the effort to include in this mechanism an important number of colleagues from prestigious universities abroad. The Bulletin of the Polytechnic Institute of Jassy is not being sold but disseminated on an exchange basis. Currently the journal is involved in 113 national and international exchanges.
